Sunday No-Funday
For the last 8 years or so, I've always felt like I was in the outside looking in on everyone else's fun times. I used to have this dream that I was out at a bar and there were tons of people there and everyone was haivng a good time- only all the guys there looked just like me. And they were all having a blast, but me- the REAL me, was sort of just alone and trying to figure out why I wasn't friends with any of these people. It's gotten better in the last couple years, but I still have that sense come over me every now and then. Maybe it's the reality of winter setting in, and being stuck indoors for a Sunday, because they said on the news if you go outside for too long it's dangerous and exposing your skin to the air and wind is hazardous and could cause frostbite. I think I have to figure out something, sometime. Where am I? What am I doing? Am I being karmaically punished for all the terrible things I've done in my life, by feeling alone and purposeless? Maybe I should stop watching TV or something. Read more. I said I was going to last year, I did more but not enough. I'll have some time over the next few weeks, maybe I'll come up with some resolutions for 2009. As stupid as the premise sounds, I'm thinking about taking on the philosophy of Jim Carrey's character in that new movie where he has to say "yes" to everything.

Can't Wait For November 5th
I had no plans to blog tonight, but I just saw something on CNN that I had to relay to the few of you that read this. I just watched a Florida woman discuss why she supports McCain. The crux of her argument was she was afraid of Obama "spreading the wealth," and she concluded by saying she thought Obama would "lead us to a scoialistic scoiety, rather than a democratic one."
It's unbelievable how stupid people are. It would have been great if the interviewer (who I'm assuming is reasonably intelligent in order to get a job a CNN) had informed this woman that socialism and democracy are not mutually exclusive, let alone opposites, and that a society can be socialist AND democratic, and that the two philosophies are not even on the same spectrum, unlike socialism and capatalism.
I can't wait for this thing to be over.

Catching Up
Man, I haven't blogged in a while. TOO long. I have nobody to blame but myself. The last two weeks have been busy, between my birthday, the Jewish holidays, work, and a trip to Philadelphia for a pretty sweet big fat greek wedding.
I don't know what to think about this election. On the one hand it looks like Obama has it in the bag. On the other hand, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... you're not gonna fool me agin! I don't really like the way Palin seems to be inciting a race riot in the last week or so. And since I wasn't really paying attention to news over the weekend, I didn't see the story about how Palin was found guilty of ethics violations in "Troopergate." I've been trying to catch up and I can't find the story ANYWHERE. Even the "liberal media" that's "in the tank" for Obama isn't harping on it, while Palin continues to claim she was completely exonerated by the bi-partisan committee (10 Republicans, 4 Dems). Where is the media on this? Why would they let up now, when there is actually tangible evidence of her un-qualified-ness, aside from her obvious stupidity and ignorance?
And why does McCain still make stupid statements about beating Obama in debates that he clearly can't back up? He's done it twice now. More hilarious is that conservatives still harp on their belief that McCain won the previous debate. Bill Maher questioned this view, based on the fact that the polling numbers showed that most of America didn't agree, which was factual reality, versus the GOP's "faith" in the real, true Americans, which I guess is the same as Palin's faith that the Iraq war is a "mission from God," and that one of the first inventions by man was the saddle, so he could ride on the dinosaurs.
I read a couple of good books in the interim. Finished Choke, and also read Downtown Owl by Chuck Klosterman, both were good. I also saw Nick and Norah (decent), Sex and the City (basically an epic episode of SATC), and The Happening, which was M. Night's latest movie, and was terrible. It was as if it was a submission in a film school class where the assignment was to make an "M. Night style" film.
We've still got some decent weather, but who knows how long that will last. Expect the blogging to ramp up, as we move toward the election and winter.

Two New Years Approach...
OK, so things are looking bleak. The Dow is down like 7 gazillion points, Global Warming is slowly killing us all, yet summer seems to have ended, and we are heading into one of the most divisive elections since the last election. But I'm trying to keep my head up, and oyu should too. So here are some reasons I'm excited, and maybe they will get you excited or at least get you to think about what makes you siked.
It's almost by birthday.
Tonight begins Rosh Hashanah, so not only have I made it another year, but so have the Jews.
I'm in quite possibly the best shape of my life.
My folks seem to be pretty healthy, relatively.
I've got a solid job.
I'm not heavily invested in the market.
I've got some good friends, many of whom I'll be seeing soon.
It's official- I'm an awesome cook.
The Redskins dominated Dallas yesterday.
It's still in the 60s in Chicago.
The Office is back on.
I took some sweet trips this summer.
No matter what, in a few months George W. will no longer be our President.
Bill Maher and John Stewart are keeping me laughing.
I've gotten fairly consistent PW-7 Iron, and my putting is pretty decent.
I sort of feel like I know what I'm doing in many different facets of life, moreso than ever before.
It's always a good feeling to be alive for another year.
So, don't let the man, the market, or the Minnesota Twins get you down- if you're up and walking around, you're doing pretty good!

Master Debater
I almost kind of hope John McCain flakes out on Friday's debate so he can "focus" on the economic crisis. I say this because I won't be able to watch it, since I'll be hanging with a friend who doesn't own a television. She makes up for this by being a super-fox though. I think I'll set the old DVR and watch over the weekend. That is, if the Maverick shows. Maybe Obama should use the "What are you, some kinda CHICKEN???" move- it always worked on Marty McFly.
